When thinking about traveling with children, most people would probably imagine a luxury holiday in a nice resort on a Pacific island, or a flight to classic Europe to see major attractions including Disneyland of course. Flights, hotels, rental cars, restaurants, pretty hectic but a good and entertaining holiday. However, that’s not what I’m talking about. Ever thought about a Caravan Road Trip? Now you’re talking.

I know it sounds crazy. Why would you travel with your kids in a caravan and tow them and your belongings all around the country? Think about it, it’s quite insane. You know what’s more? to get the best of it you should travel for a long period of time. Caravaning is a cost-effective way to travel, so why don’t you stretch it over a few months or what do you say – a whole year!

Before you freak out and click away from this page, let me explain why this is the best way to experience family time and traveling. When you’re caravaning you are your own boss and can travel at your own pace. Arrived at a lovely place? stay as much as you like. Don’t like the neighbours? move on to a different site. You will find yourself camping on beautiful beaches, grassy landscapes, with a massive backyard just for yourself and your family. Meet new people along the way, make new friends, share stories and traveling tips, experience the time of your life.

There are many arguments not to go. It’s not simple leaving behind the so-called Stability: a job to pay your mortgage, a home with brick walls around it in a nice neighbourhood, good schools for the kids, family and friends. The good old days where nearly nothing unexpected happens, your days are hectic in a very planned manner and you just live your life with no challenges, not too many emotions, with mostly predictable scenarios. You know where you should be on a Monday morning, and you know exactly where you’ll finish your working week on Friday night. Routine. We all hate routine, don’t we. And you know what? It would all wait for you when you’re coming back from your amazing adventure.

So a few years ago, it sounded like that: “Are you serious? Going on a caravan trip with your wife and kids? Have you lost your mind?” Well, I did. Definitely did. And it’s the daily rat race that got me there. It’s killing me inside, the same way it’s probably drowning many others in Western society. Can’t stay here anymore. I just gotta do something about it. Fortunately, my wife feels the same way, luckily we both like traveling, and not-surprisingly we already had a plan. An evacuation plan from reality. It’s been there for a while, we just needed to find the right time to execute our emergency plan.

So there you go, back in 2011 we took that step and went for it. And you know what? it had been the best year of our lives by far – traveling around Australia, the land down under, for a whole year. The kids had a blast and learnt so much along the way, far more than they will ever learn at school. So why am I telling you all this? Well, if you’re reading these lines, then there is something in your heart that tells you: “I have to do this, I need a change!”. My best advice to you is to Get Away. Live your life. You live only once, and time just flies. Before you know it, you’ll be 50, your kids would be teenagers and won’t bother to spend any time with you, they’ll have their own friends, and you’ll regret those years where you were just too busy at work, building a career, working late and hardly spent any quality time with your kids when they were young. This is an opportunity you cannot afford to miss. There will never be a perfect time for a getaway, so don’t wait too long. It’s not going to be easy at first, but once you do it you will turn your life around.

Spend time with your kids while they are young, there is no better way to do it other than getting out of the rat race, escape the typical life you are expected to live and go out to TRAVEL. This is your chance to make things happen and create amazing memories. For yourself, for your children, for your family. Put them at the top of the list, and enjoy every moment with them. I promise you one thing – you will never regret this.
