While we are seeing a flood of countries around the world announcing they will recognize a Palestinian state, supporting the so-called Two-State Solution in the Middle East, they must be thinking they are doing a noble thing for humanity, in order to finally resolve a conflict of a hundred years between Israel and the Arabs.
Unfortunately, they are totally missing a critical fact: the Two-State solution was offered time and time again, between the 1930’s to the early 2000’s, and while the Jews always accepted it, not to mentioned they had offered it themselves after becoming a state of their own in 1948, the Arabs on the other hand had rejected it repeatedly. Let’s go back to history and look at all those opportunities when a solution was brought to the table:
- The British Peel Commission report in 1937 offered to divide the land under the British Mandate between a Jewish state and an Arab state – the Jews accepted, the Arabs rejected.
- In 1947, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Partition Plan – a proposal to divide the British Mandate in the region into separate Jewish and Arab states. The Jewish community accepted the plan, the Arab population and neighboring Arab states rejected it, leading to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War
- In 1993, the Oslo Accords between Israel (led by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin) and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) were signed, leading to the creation of the Palestinian Authority (PA). In response, Palestinian terrorist organizations – Hamas and Islamic Jihad – sent hundreds of suicide bombers to Israeli cities, targeting Israeli civilians in shopping centers, public buses, transit stations, cafes, nightclubs and restaurants. Palestinian Suicide Terrorism was the response to the emerging Peace Process.
- In 2000, at the Camp David Summit – Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak offered a Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem – but PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat, a long-time terrorist prior to becoming the Palestinian leader, rejected the offer. Immediately after, the Second Intifada erupted with another Palestinian Terror wave of Suicide Bombing across Israel and more than a thousand Israeli civilians dead.
- In 2005, Israel (led by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon) disengaged from Gaza. That was a unilateral withdrawal of Israeli security forces and settlements from the Gaza Strip, giving the PA a land to start building a state. Hamas took over in 2007 and used Gaza as a launchpad to attack Israel.
- In 2008, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert offered to Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) a state with a sovereign share of Jerusalem and 100% of the West Bank, with some one-for-one land swaps. Yet again, it was rejected by the Palestinian president.
FACT: The Palestinians have repeatedly rejected the chance of establishing their own state
You should ask yourself – how is this going to be different this time around? The simple answer is – it won’t be different, it will lead to the exact same result, simply because it is missing a critical element. To have a resolution between two sides, you need to have two sides who are interested and willing to compromise.
FACT: Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian Authority and the Palestinian people are not willing to give up one thing – the total destruction of the Jewish state called Israel
In 1947, British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin addressed the British parliament to explain why the UK was taking “the question of Palestine,” which was in its care, to the United Nations. He opened by saying that “His Majesty’s government has been faced with an irreconcilable conflict of principles.” He then went on to describe the essence of that conflict: “For the Jews, the essential point of principle is the creation of a sovereign Jewish state. For the Arabs, the essential point of principle is to resist to the last – the establishment of Jewish sovereignty in any part of Palestine.” In summary: “the Jews want a state, of whatever size, and the Arabs want the Jews not to have a state at all”. Isn’t it striking that nothing had changed in the past 80 years, making this a forever-war?
FACT: The Palestinians have repeatedly rejected to acknowledge the State of Israel
So why did the Arabs – who found their identity in the early 1960’s and started to call themselves Palestinians – rejected the two-state solution time and time again? Why haven’t they acknowledged the existence of the State of Israel and agreed to live in peace next to it? Why haven’t they agreed to make any compromises while Israel made plenty of them and offered 99% of the so-called occupied land (the result of the 1967 6-day-war where the west bank was taken from Jordan and the Gaza strip was taken from Egypt – note, there was never a Palestinian state anywhere in the region – and both countries dismissed the offer to get the land back when signing a peace agreement with Israel). The answer is simple: because Palestinians do not want to build their own state, they want to destroy another state.
FACT: The Palestinians have never been sincere about wanting to reach peace and coexistence with Israel
Since October 7, we started to hear voices among pro-Palestinians to free Palestine from the Jordan river to the Mediterranean sea, effectively calling for a one-state solution which is more like Nazi Germany’s final solution to exterminate the Jews. This is what the Palestinians really want, the complete Annihilation of the State of Israel and the Jews. All you need is simply listen to what they are saying again and again. Given their message is very clear, and Palestinian leaders echo the same voices over the years, why would you give them a state when it is obvious they will only use it as a launchpad to attack Israel again and again, as they have done since Israel’s inception. They promise to do more October 7 attacks and slaughter Israeli citizens and they will, given the opportunity.
FACT: No Palestinian Leader to this day had EVER committed to a real peace with its neighboring State of Israel
Why does the West fail to see the truth? Why are they stuck in their naivety, coming up with the very same solutions which were rejected by Palestinians time and time again? Why aren’t they forcing any terms and conditions upon the Palestinians in return to any declaration of a so-called Palestinian state, demanding a few very basic things:
- Acknowledge the existence of the State of Israel
- Stop any form or shape of Terrorism against Israel
- Educate their children that Peace is the way forward
- Abandon their forever-war Islamic Jihadi doctrine
- Build their own state and stop relying on billions of dollars paid to you by other countries
- Abolish UNRWA – the UN agency established in 1949, which maintains the so-called Palestinian refugee issue rather than resolve it (millions of other refugees around the world during the same period had been repatriated and got off the refugee book)
- Stop being the world’s parasite – abolish all the “humanitarian agencies” collecting money for the poor children of Gaza and the West Bank – it’s a scam! A big portion of these funds end up with Hamas terrorist group and in the pockets of Palestinian leaders – who are interestingly super rich while their own people remain poor
FACT: the Palestinians consider the conflict with Israel as an existential question rather than a territorial conflict. It is an ideological war aiming at a complete Annihilation of Israel and the Jews
Unfortunately, this is the grim reality and the reason why the Israel-Palestine conflict can never be resolved based on Western Values of compromise and willingness to seek a better future for our children. Until Palestinians stop glorifying death and wish for their children to become martyrs in the name of their God, until they are willing to accept the existence of Israel, like most of the Arab world did in recent years – until then nothing will change and the conflict will go on.
