We live in a very complicated world. What used to be simple and easy to understand had now become confusing, to the point where Moral Clarity – the ability to clearly distinguish between right and wrong, between good and evil – is vague, ambiguous, compromised and confusing to many people. We are witnessing our western societies becoming more and more polarized and disconnected. Each side sees it plain and simple as Us against Them, while leaders call for so-called Unity, but their own actions, or rather lack of, keeps us divided more than ever.
We used to agree on and live by a set of core values – such as Freedom, Democracy, Equality, Life, Safety and Rule of Law – as the foundational principles that define a secure and prosperous society. Somehow these common values are now influenced by different forces and apparently mean different things to different people. How did we get to this point, and how can we turn this around before it’s too late?
Journalism and the Media used to be the source of truth, serving as a responsible entity delivering news as they happen from all over the world, straight into our hands and minds, without any bias. The audience can then consume the information, untouched, make their own processing and comprehension, then form their very own opinion about whatever is going on. This was known as Critical Thinking where we would question everything, make our own research, become more knowledgeable about context, history and current affairs, and our general knowledge was much broader than what is new with the Kardashians… With the rise of the internet (before it all went downhill), we had Wikipedia to fall back to whenever we wished to expand our knowledge and seek additional facts among unbiased historical information. But in today’s day and age, when it became Wokepedia, can we trust anyone in the media or across the world wide web at all?
Each and every media outlet appears to have their own agenda, to such a degree that if the story at hand doesn’t fit with their narrative, they simply won’t report about it, or much worse, they manipulate the details, the sequence of events, or show only one side of the story to support their already-biased report. Audiences who are watching the news outlets are being presented with the network’s version of the truth, which can be in many cases far from the truth. Thanks god for the invention of the remote control, it will allow you to navigate between different channels and see the contrast in detail, commentary and storyline between ABC, BBC, CNN and others on the left, with Sky News, Fox News and colleges on the right. Is there anyone sitting in the middle at all? Can someone just tell me what is actually happening without trying to shape a narrative and impact my point of view?
Social Media was created to connect between people from all over the world, breaking down barriers of physical distance, borders, religions or anything else that used to keep us humans apart. Sadly, look what Facebook, Instagram, X Twitter and TikTok had become. Not much is left of the originally fun social network concept, other than your real friends it is not a safe place to communicate with other human beings who come from different backgrounds or sit behind a keyboard on the other side of the globe. Rather, they turned into tools and algorithms designed to manipulate our brains and influence everything we think or know about pretty much anything, especially when it comes to Geo-political events. These algorithms were designed to push influential content into our feeds and shape our views of the world in an endless collection of 10-second videos, not enough time to dig deeper into the details nor the truth.
Universities and schools used to teach our young minds how to zoom out and take a moment to reflect and understand the context, look at the big picture and god-forbid do our own research. The information is generally out there, reliable sources are usually a few clicks away, websites, podcasts, books and old-school libraries still exist in academic institutions, and good lecturers in uni back in my time used to repeatedly emphasize how critical thinking is expected of students.
While the academia historically challenged mainstream politics and diverted to the left, lecturers and professors are entitled to their own opinions outside the campus, but while in campus students should expect, rather demand, a free and open debate about anything and everything, encouraging and accepting different views in a respectable environment. In today’s academic world, far left and Woke ideology has taken over the conversation, blaming our own western societies in all the flaws and wrongdoing of human kind throughout history, ignoring the fact that the institutions they are part of had flourished within the only societies around the world that value pluralism and free speech.
Here’s an opportunity to practice some critical thinking. Why is the Academia putting so much effort into shaping our young brains and ways of thinking? Why are they pushing their own narrative rather than encouraging students to shape their own? If you have a look at the list of donors for many western universities in America and Europe, you will find foreign donations in the billions. Money, and a lot of it, is driving the narrative. Wait, there’s another word for it… it’s called Propaganda. Coming from a foreign country, it’s called Infiltration.
Listen to the most common themes in any conversation these days, emphasizing words like Colonialism, Oppression, Diversity, Racism as if the West is the only part of the world to blame for their existence, as if these never happen in the East (China Russia), Middle East (Muslim nations) or South (Africa). It seems like humans outside the West live in complete harmony without being slaughtered or oppressed by their very own governments. Gaza, Iran, Somalia, Yemen – would you send your own kids to live there? Or would you rather raise your family in a Western society? And how do you explain the waves of migration out of these countries and into the West, searching for better lives? What are they escaping from and why are they coming if it is so horrible in the west?
Young people today – some would become the next leaders of the world – are increasingly consuming the information they see on their screens in a straightforward manner, often accepting it at face value without challenging it, engaging in critical analysis or thinking what does it actually mean. This phenomenon can be attributed to several factors, including the rapid dissemination of information through social media, which promotes instant gratification over deep thought. With so much misinformation online, fact-checking has become a crucial tool for all of us to do our own research and distinguish between truth and false. Before you share that viral story, take a moment to fact-check it using reputable sources. Simple actions like verifying the details, understanding the context, researching the history and being open for debate are unfortunately nowhere to be seen.
The prevalence of algorithms that direct content tailored to individual preferences also leads to a form of intellectual complacency. When people are only presented with ideas that reinforce their beliefs, they become less likely to challenge their viewpoints or engage in meaningful discussions with those holding different opinions. When we see the same images over and over again, when we hear the same slogans repeated on a daily basis, anyone may easily fall into the trap. Short videos cannot possibly give you the whole story, they are designed to manipulate and show a very narrow side of the story.
Moreover, the decline of open debate in educational settings has contributed to this issue. In an environment where dissenting opinions are met with hostility or censorship, students are discouraged from expressing their thoughts freely. This stifles the development of critical thinking skills essential for evaluating the validity and reliability of the information encountered.
To over complicate things, in the age of AI, how can you trust anything you see online? anyone these days can create an image or a video clip in seconds, then post it on social media, with a potential audience of millions of people. Deep Fake technology can voice over any person in the world, making it completely look-alike. You can make anyone say or do anything, you can create an alternative reality. AI is not only artificial intelligence, it can be artificial facts and truth,. It can create narratives, push agendas, generate propaganda, manipulate reality, and it’s available to anyone with an internet connection to produce and promote for millions of people to consume. Good luck figuring out what is fake and what is real. Two key words come to mind – Question Everything…
As a result, the ability to discern credible sources from misleading ones diminishes, and young individuals may fall prey to misinformation. To combat this trend, it is crucial to foster an educational culture that values critical thinking, encourages diverse perspectives, and embraces open dialogue. By cultivating these skills, young people can become more discerning consumers of information and active participants in the discourse that shapes our world.
With the rise of activism, we are witnessing an ongoing and persisting wave of demonstrations around the world, presented as humanitarian and socialist movements. However, a closer look reveals the hypocrisy as those so-called activists choose their battles. There is so much pain, killing and oppression around the world, but the humanitarian warriors seem to ignore a lot of it, especially when it comes to totalitarian regimes in Russia, China, North Korea and Iran, civil wars in the Middle East and Africa, with a massive death toll completely ignored. On the other hand, protests in western countries focus on anti-Israel, anti-America and in fact anti-West, socialist and Marxist agendas. The question is what is their goal, what is the end game, where are they heading? Aren’t those people taking advantage of free-speech and right to demonstrate in the western world, unlike other parts of the globe, with the aim to rattle western societies from within, turn democracies and social order on their head, damage social cohesion and our very own existence? One has to ask themselves, if things are so terribly wrong in the West, why do you still live there? Unlike other parts of the world, you are welcome to leave.
When people keep saying Colonialism, Oppression, Occupation, Apartheid, White Supremacy, Resistance, Genocide, all in the same sentence, again and again, what is the purpose of it? Have you ever wondered who is driving these conversations? There must be something much bigger than the face value of these strong words, are you curious enough to do your own research and Look for Meaning?
When you hear a slogan like “Stolen Land”, what does it actually mean? What is the purpose in chanting Stolen Land while you live in a country like Australia, Canada or USA? Why don’t you hear these chants in other parts of the world? If you deeply care about it, why don’t you be the first one to leave, so the others can follow you? Mind you, every corner of this planet used to be inhabited by its own Indigenous people, until natural events, conquerors, Crusades, Jihad and two world wars shifted forces, people and borders throughout history. Much of the land anywhere the eye can see once belonged to someone else who lived there before, but somehow we only focus on the most recent history when we fight to bring justice to some minorities, but definitely not all. Can you roll back history? Millions of people from war-torn countries moved on from adversity and rebuilt their lives, when will you move on as well?
When you hear a slogan like “Globalize the Intifada”, proudly chanted by a former, now disgraced, Australian of the year, why not pick up a keyboard and look up what does it actually mean? what is Intifada? should we only consider its simple translation from Arabic or should we consider historical events and facts associated with this word, such as how many innocent civilians where killed, exploded in suicide bombing on public buses, in cafes and night clubs, by Palestinian terrorists. So what do the people who chant these words time and time again on pro-Palestine protests actually want, other than bringing in terror into our own streets, killing our own children, bringing forever fear and hatred into our own society – is that what they want? Is this their goal? Because more than a thousand children, women and men murdered by hundreds of suicide bombing terror attacks is what Intifada actually means. Not a cry for Justice or Waking Up, but pure hatred that destroys everything around it.
How can you call yourself a human rights activist when your only involvement is with the pro-Palestine protests, while you and your fellow demonstrators completely ignore the murder of tens of thousands innocent Iranian civilians on the streets by their own Islamic Revolution regime? Not to mention millions of other suffering souls in different corners of the world. Genuine activists do not pick and choose. When you care about Climate Change, you care about its impact all over the world, not only in a very particular spot in the Middle East where you can blame the Jews.
We live in a troubled era where so many people around the world have lost their moral clarity. Demonstrators are currently using various slogans and chants that focus on themes of anti-colonialism, socialism, resistance, and systemic victimhood. How can you call the murder of women and children in the Gaza Envelope “Resistance” when the victims are Israelis, but call the death of women and children in Gaza “Genocide” when the victims are Palestinians? Why are you bothering calling out “Colonialism” when it is a thing of the past, part of our human history that shaped the world, but hardly exists anymore outside modern history books? Why are you glorifying the so-called “Resistance” but fail to acknowledge it is using terror, murder, rape and suffering as a toolbox, against enemies but also against their very own people? How can you call an attack against a totalitarian regime who declares they wish to destroy other countries and pursue nuclear weapons as an “Illegal War”, while this regime is clearly responsible for decades of terror and killing of so many lives around the world? Are their actions legal?
Imagine how our world could be if we remove disinformation, manipulation, propaganda, let alone all the bad guys who wish to destroy you and me. We are so lucky living in democratic western societies, enjoying freedoms we take for granted, freedoms that other people can only dream of. But what we are lacking in our generation is Critical Thinking and analysis of current affairs, willingness to become more knowledgeable about history, and challenge what we see and hear on news channels, social media, podcasts and street demonstrations. Ignorance never stopped people from having very strong views. You must Question Everything and take the time to gain more knowledge, search for the truth, dig into the details, go below the surface, before you form an opinion or take a side. Never be satisfied with anything you hear, see or read – that is the secret of being an informed human being.
Remember, things are far more complicated than a 3 word chant. Hatred is easy to spread, but very hard to contain. Ask the Germans in the 1930s where did it lead them and the whole world, through World War II and the Holocaust. Millions were murdered, killed, and displaced, not only because of one disgraced leader, but manly because of millions who followed him blindly. History tends to repeat itself, unless humans do not repeat the same horrific mistakes.
