When was the last time you found yourself jumping out of bed, excited about the new day ahead of you? Possibly a long time ago. Why is it so, that we are going through life this way, dragging ourselves to work in the morning, lacking motivation to be the best version of ourselves. Surely there’s a better way, there must be a better place for us to find, there is much more to life.
I don’t tend to come up with whole new resolutions for the new year (or decade in this case). For me, it’s a natural evolvement of the goals I’ve previously set, those I should be working towards every day, and those I have to remind myself are much more important than anything else in this world. This year, because it’s the beginning of a new decade, I came up with 10 things to guide the way into the new era.
What if someone told you that today is your last day and you’re invited to your own funeral tomorrow afternoon just before sunset? how would you feel about it? would your eyes be filled with tears because you’re going to miss watching your kids growing up and you’re not going to be there for them? will you be disappointed that you haven’t fulfilled your dreams to travel the world or finish that book you’ve always wanted to write and publish?
Where can you find true leadership these days around the world? Nowhere but the most remote and maybe unexpected place on the globe: New Zealand. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has proven to be the only light in a very dark world. While USA, UK, Europe, Russia and Australia are swept by nationalism and trumpism, a dividing leadership which is hardly able to articulate a single sentence without blaming, hating and promoting White Supremacy.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your self-confidence? Would it be right to say that most of the human population is not confident enough in their own abilities? How do we get to the point where we are happy with what we see in the mirror? How good is the feeling of walking with our head up high, where we are true to ourselves and don’t give a damn about what other people think about us? Well, we do care, but we are confident enough in our way so people would just have to accept it.
Here’s a story: we had this short seminar at work where they talked about identifying “Your Strengths” leading towards using them to accomplish your goals. This is when I realised my Top Strength is Prudence. What does that even mean? It’s about time I look inside, stare at the mirror and ask myself some serious questions. It’s time to take more risks and make a change.
Isn’t life a funny thing? One moment you’re up, the next you’re down. No wonder people refer to life as a roller coaster sometimes. You know what? it actually makes it far more interesting this way. Just imagine life would be same old thing every single day. That would be quite boring, wouldn’t it.
I’m very proud of most of the things I have done so far in life, and I’m confident in the choices I have made, no regrets. However, there is still a feeling that something is missing. Occasionally, I’m having these thoughts of not fulfilling my full potential, of not doing the things I really want to do every day. And I wonder, how do you figure out what is your purpose in this life?
Every parent would tell you the teenage years are such a joy. There are so many theories and explanations about why it is the way it is, effectively way more complicated than what it should be. Add to that the online social networks and we got a much wider problem, because now it’s not only the other school kids we have to worry about, it’s the world wide web. Life as a teenager can be quite complicated. But it doesn’t have to be like that.
Many of us get dragged by the capitalism of today’s western society, often unhappy with what we’ve got and forever chasing life to gain more and more. While capitalism focuses on the financial side of things, the flip side of the coin is how well we cope mentally with our own reality, with the choices we have made, and our state of mind. Why do we lack any appreciation of what we got, and carry on with our lives feeling unhappy and unfortunate?
Roger is the King of Tennis, the most admirable Champion, a Legend, the fans’ Favorite everywhere he goes around the world, the Greatest Of All Time (a.k.a the GOAT). He is, in fact, a lot more than a tennis persona or an athlete. He truly is an inspiration, which is clearly evident when you read through some of Roger’s famous quotes.
Our biggest fear should be the “Silence of the Majority”. Most of us pretty much share the same opinions, but we’re standing on the sidelines, observing the events around us as if we are watching a movie, as if we do not participate, cannot get involved. We sit back and see what happens, hope for a happy ending, and if we don’t like what we see, we can simply switch to a different channel.
When things don’t work out the way you want, or when something bad happens to you, it might feel like the issues you are facing right now are the worst possible problems in the whole wide world. So what should you do about it? How about you take a step back and assess everything from a different, wider perspective? you have to look at the BIG picture.
So what is the purpose of all of this? I was asking myself while looking back at how my recent day-to-day life has been evolving in the last few years. Feels like I’m stuck in my own routine, day in and day out. Although everything may be going alright, I remind myself that Life is a Choice and thankfully we do have the ability to make our own choices in life. Evidently, what I currently experience and the way I live is based on the choices I’ve made. It’s up to me to change it…
You only live once, so make the best of it. Your kids are the most important thing in your life, so make sure you spend as much time as possible with them. Don’t let other things get in the way. Be there with them, be there for them. Enjoy it while you can.
It’s funny. Sometimes you simply need a kick-in-the-gut to make you understand something you have already known for a while. Something needs to happen to force you to finally take some action, get out of your comfort zone. Well, it finally happened to me.
